"Naughty Outlaw" - FTU Tutorial


This tutorial was written on Saturday, June 30th 2012 by Mystery Designs. It was written in PSP X2 and assumes a good, working knowledge of the program. **Supplies Needed**

Tube of choice. I'm using an awesome tube by the artist Lynn Rider which can be purchased here

Scrapkit of choice. The one I have used is a freebie called “Cowgirl Outlaw” which you can collect here

Template of choice. I used Template 29 by Denz Designz which you can collect here

Ready? Then let's begin :)

Open up your tube
Press shift+d to duplicate
Close the original

Open up your template
Press shift+ d to duplicate
Close the original
Delete layer “DenzDesignz”

Highlight layer “large circle”


Selections – Select All – Float – Defloat


Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “largecircle1”

Open up “SD CO Paper 2” from the kit and minimize it

Change your background to Pattern and select the paper we just minimized


Angle 0, Scale 60



Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill the selection


**Do Not Deselect**

Highlight layer “large circle”

Selections – Modify – Expand – 4 Pixels

Change your foreground to a colour from your tube/tag. I am using black - #000000

Fill the selection


Selections – None


Adjust – Add/Remove Noise

Random, Monochrome, 34

Sharpness – Sharpen

Add a drop shadow

Highlight layer “middle circle”

Adjust – Brightness/Contrast

Brightness -255, Contrast 10


Adjust – Add/Remove Noise



Random, Monochrome, 34


Adjust – sharpness – Sharpen

Highlight layer “small circle”

Selections – Select All – Float – Defloat

Open up “SD CO Button 3” from the kit


Copy – Paste – Into Selection


**Do Not Deselect**

Highlight layer “middle circle” again

Selections – Modify – Contract – 4 Pixels

Hit Delete


Selections – None



Layers – Arrange – Move Up


Add a drop shadow

Highlight layer “left star”


Selections – Select All – Float – Defloat


Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “leftstar1”

Open up “SD CO Paper 4” from the kit and minimize it

Set your background to pattern with the paper we just minimized

Angle 0, Scale 60


Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill the selection



Selections – None


Add a drop shadow


Delete layer “left star”


Highlight layer “right star”


Selections – Select All – Float – Defloat


Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “rightstar1”

Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill your selection using the same paper and settings


Selections – None

Add a drop shadow



Delete layer “right star”


Highlight layer “dot star frame left”


Adjust – Brightness/Contrast


Brightness -255, Contrast 10

Highlight layer “dot star frame right”


Adjust – Brightness/Contrast


Brightness -255, Contrast 10

Open up “SD CO Wire Fence” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “wire1”


Image – Resize – 55%

Image – Free Rotate with these settings :





Layers – Duplicate and rename “wire 2”

Image – Mirror

Add a drop shadow to both wire layers

Highlight layer “wire 2”

Layers – Merge – Merge Down

Layers – Arrange – Send to Bottom

Minimize your tag for the moment

Open up “SD CO Wanted Sign” from the kit
Press shift+d to duplicate
Close the original

Image – Resize – 45%

Grab your Selection Tool – Set on Rectangle


Select the square in the middle of the poster


Grab your tube

Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “middle”


Arrange over the selection



Selections – Invert and hit delete



Selections – Select All


Image – Crop To Selection

Change the Blend Mode to “Luminance (Legacy)”

Layers – Merge – Merge Down

Image – Resize – 55%

Image – Copy

Open up your tag and highlight layer “dot star frame right”

Paste – As New Layer and rename “wanted”

Arrange over on the top-left edge of the circles like so :





Image – Free Rotate with these settings :





Add a drop shadow

Open up “SD CO Embellisment 2” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “starstring”


Image – Resize – 35%

Arrange over the top edge of the large circle like so :





Add a drop shadow

Open up “SD CO Cactus” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “cactus”


Image – Resize – 55%

Arrange over on the left-hand side of your tag like so :





Add a drop shadow

Open up “SD CO Embellisment” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “hat”


Image – Resize – 45%

Arrange over on the bottom-left of your tag like so :





Add a drop shadow

Open up “SD CO WA” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “wordart”


Image – Resize – 55%


Arrange on the middle-bottom of your tag like so :




Add a drop shadow

Open up “SD CO Boots” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “boots”


Image – Resize – 25%

Arrange them over on the bottom-right of your tag like so :





Add a drop shadow

Open up “SD CO Grass 3” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “grass”


Arrange it along the bottom-middle of your tag like so :






Drag this layer down in your Layer Palette so that it is below your “wanted” layer


Add a drop shadow

Grab your tube


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “tube”


Arrange your tube on the tag until you are happy

Layers – Arrange – Move Down

Add a drop shadow

**If you would like to resize your tag, now is the time to do so**

Add your name and all copyrights.
Save your finished tag and you’re done!
