"Maggie's Meaning" - FTU Tutorial


This tutorial was written on Tuesday, June 26th 2012 by Mystery Designs. It was written in PSP X2 and assumes a good, working knowledge of the program. **Supplies Needed**

Tube of choice. I'm using Tony T's “Boxer (Maggie)” tube which you can purchase here

Scrapkit of choice. I used a Freebie Sampler I made for this tube which you can download here

Template of choice. I'm using Template 129 by Leah of Amy & Leah's Gimptastic Tuts, which you can collect here

Mask of choice. The one I'm using is by Vix – Big Mask 001, which you can collect here

Ready? Then let's begin :)

Open up your tube
Press shift+d to duplicate
Close the original

Open up the template
Press shift+d to duplicate
Close the original
Delete the “credits-delete”, “background” and “2” layers

Image – Canvas Size – 750 x 600 Pixels

This may seem a little large but it is just to give room to work and can always be resized later on :)

Highlight layer “9

Adjust – Brightness and Contrast

Brightness 255, Contrast 10

Adjust – Add/Remove Noise

Uniform, Monochrome, 63%

Selections – Select All – Float – Defloat


Selections – Modify – Contract – 6 Pixels


Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “9a

Open up “DmsMDMaggieP11” from the kit and minimize it

Change your background to Pattern – Angle 0, Scale 58


Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill the selection


Selections – None

Highlight layer “9” again and add a drop shadow

Highlight layer “8


Adjust – Brightness and Contrast


Brightness 255, Contrast 10

Adjust – Add/Remove Noise

Uniform, Monochrome, 63%

Selections – Select All – Float – Defloat

Selections – Modify – Contract – 6 Pixels

Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “8a

Open up “DmsMDMaggieP02” from the kit and minimize it

On your background palette, choose the paper we just minimized

Angle 0, Scale 58

Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill the selection

Selections – None


Highlight layer “8” again and add a drop shadow


Highlight layer “7

Adjust – Brightness and Contrast

Brightness 255, Contrast 10

Adjust – Add/Remove Noise

Uniform, Monochrome, 63%

Add a drop shadow

Highlight layer “6


Selections – Select All – Float – Defloat


Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “6a

Change your foreground to a colour from your tag/kit. I am using #4c8fc4

Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill the selection

Selections – None


Adjust – Add/Remove Noise

Add a drop shadow

Delete layer “6

Adjust – Brightness and Contrast

Adjust – Add/Remove Noise

Selections – Select All – Float – Defloat

Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “5a

Open up “DmsMDMaggieP01” from the kit and minimize it

Change your background to Paper and choose the one we just minimized

Angle 0, Scale 58

Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill the selection

Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “4a

Change your foreground to a different complimentary colour from your tag. I am using #d12938

Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill the selection

Adjust – Add/Remove Noise

Add a drop shadow

Delete layer “4

Highlight layer “3

Adjust – Brightness and Contrast

Brightness 255, Contrast 10


Adjust – Add/Remove Noise

Selections – Select All – Float – Defloat


Selections – Modify – Contract – 6 Pixels


Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “3a”

Change your background back to “DmsMDMaggieP11


Angle 0, Scale 58


Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill the selection


Selections – None


Highlight layer “3” again and add a drop shadow

Adjust – Brightness and Contrast


Brightness -255, Contrast 10

Adjust – Add/Remove Noise

Highlight layer “words 3 back

Adjust – Brightness and Contrast

Brightness -255, Contrast 10

Add a drop shadow

Highlight layer “words 3

Selections – Select All – Float – Defloat

Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “words 3a

Open up “DmsMDMaggieP03” from the kit and minimize it

Change your background to Pattern and choose the paper we just minimized

Angle 45, Scale 58

Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill your selection


Selections – None


Highlight layer “words 2 back

Adjust – Brightness and Contrast

Brightness 255, Contrast 10

Adjust – Add/Remove Noise

Uniform, Monochrome, 63%

Add a drop shadow

Highlight layer “words 2


Selections – Select All – Float – Defloat


Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “words 2a

Change your foreground and background to two complimentary colours from your tag. I am using #4c8fc4 and #d12938 from before

Change your background to Gradient with these settings :



Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill the selection with the gradient you just created


Selections – None

Delete the “words 2” layer

Highlight layer “words 1 back


Add a drop shadow


Highlight layer “words 1


Adjust – Brightness and Contrast


Brightness -255, Contrast 10

Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “mask

Change your foreground to black #000000

Floodfill the layer

Layers – Load/Save Mask – Load Mask From Disk

Choose “Vix_BigMask001” with these settings :=



Layers – Arrange – Send To Bottom

Highlight layer “words 1” again

Grab your tube


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “tube


Arrange your tube in the middle of your tag

Drag the layer down in your palette so that it is below layer “1” like so :



Grab your eraser tool and carefully clear any of your tube below the line

Selections – Select All

Image – Crop To Selection

Add a drop shadow

Open up “DmsMDMaggieE37” from the kit

Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “banner

Image – Resize – 75%

Arrange along the top of your tag like so :



Add a drop shadow


Layers – Arrange – Move Down

Highlight your “tube” layer

Open up “DmsMDMaggieE29” from the kit

Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “rosette

Image – Resize – 35%

Image – Free Rotate with these settings :



Arrange over on the top-right of your tag like so :



Add a drop shadow

Layers – Arrange – Move Down

Highlight layer “1

Open up “DmsMDMaggieE41” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “towels


Image – Resize – 56%

Add a drop shadow

Arrange over on the bottom-left of your tag like so :



Open up “DmsMDMaggieE12” from the kit

Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “ribbon1

Image – Resize – 50%

Add a drop shadow

Arrange along the bottom-left of your tag like so :



Open up “DmsMDMaggieE13” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “ribbon2


Image – Resize – 50%


Arrange it on the bottom-left of your tag, directly above the previous ribbon


Image – Mirror

The ribbons should overlap in the middle like so :



Add a drop shadow

Open up “DmsMDMaggieE42” from the kit

Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “star1

Image – Resize – 75%


Arrange over on the bottom-right of your tag like so :



Layers – Duplicate and rename “star2


Image – Flip

Arrange over on the top-left of your tag like so :



Drag this layer down in you layer palette so that it is below your “tube” layer



Add a drop shadow to both star layers


Highlight the “words1” layer

Open up “DmsMDMaggieE11” from the kit

Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “bag

Image – Free Rotate with these settings :



Arrange over on the bottom-right of your tag in front of the star



Add a drop shadow


Open up “DmsMDMaggieE04” from the kit

Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “bow

Image – Resize – 30%

Add a drop shadow

Arrange over on the bottom-right of your tag on the handle of the bag we just placed

Open up “DmsMDMaggieE33” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “lips1


Image – Resize – 45%

Arrange over on the left-side of your tag just near the towels placed earlier like so :



Drag this layer down in your layer palette so that it is below your “tube” layer



Change the Blend Mode to “Screen



Layers – Duplicate and rename “lips2


Arrange over on the top-right of your tag so that it overlaps the rosette placed earlier like so :



**If you would like to resize your tag, now is the time to do so**


Add your name and all copyrights.
Save your finished tag and you’re done!
