"All Things Parisian" - FTU Tutorial


This tutorial was written on Wednesday, June 27th 2012 by Mystery Designs. It was written in PSP X2 and assumes a good, working knowledge of the program. Any similarity to other tutorials is purely coincidental and not done intentionally. Please do not copy or claim the tutorial as your own. **Supplies Needed**

Tube of choice. I'm using an older tube by Ismael Rac called “Cool Retro Girl” which you can purchase here

Scrapkit of choice. I used a Freebie called “Paris Dreams” by Scraps Dimensions which you can download here

Template of choice. The one I used is by Blissfully Beth – Template 100 which you can collect here

Mask of choice. The one I'm using is by Vix – Val2012 Mask 3, which you can collect here

Ready? Then let's begin :)

Open up your tube
Press shift+d to duplicate
Close the original

Open up the template
Press shift+d to duplicate
Close the original
Delete the “BLISSFULLY BETH” and “background” layers


Image – Canvas Size – 900 x 800 Pixels

Don't worry that this is very large, it just allows us room to work and can always be resized later on :)

Highlight layer “bottom black line”


Selections – Select All – Float – Defloat


Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “bottom black line 1”

Open up “SD PD Paper 2” and minimize it

Change your background to Pattern and choose the paper we just minimized

Angle 0, Scale 100

Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill the selection


**Do Not Deselect**


Effects – Artistic Effects – Aged Newspaper and use the default settings

(Amount To Age 12)

Selections – Modify – Expand – 4 Pixels

Highlight layer “bottom black line”


Change your foreground to black (#000000)


Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill the selection

Selections – None

Adjust – Add/Remove Noise

Random, Monochrome, 100%

Adjust – Sharpness – Sharpen

Add a drop shadow

Highlight layer “top black line”


Selections – Select All – Float – Defloat


Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “top black line 1”

Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill using the paper again from before

Effects – Artistic Effects – Aged Newspaper with the default settings again

**Do Not Deselect**


Highlight layer “top black line” again


Selections – Modify – Expand – 4 Pixels

Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill with black again


Selections – None


Adjust – Add/Remove Noise

Random, Monochrome, 100%

Adjust – Sharpness – Sharpen


Add a drop shadow


Highlight layer “top frame background”


Selections – Select All – Float – Defloat


Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “top frame background 1”

Open up “SD PD Paper 5” from the kit and minimize it

Change your background pattern to the paper we just minimized, same settings (Angle 0, Scale 100)


Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill the selection


Effects – Artistic Effects – Aged Newspaper and apply the same settings from before

Grab your tube


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “Tube 1”


Arrange it over the selection until you are happy

Selections – Invert and hit delete

Selections – None


Change the Blend Mode of the layer to “Luminance (Legacy)”

Delete layer “top frame background”


Highlight layer “top frame”

Adjust – Add/Remove Noise

Random, Monochrome, 100%


Adjust – Sharpness – Sharpen



Add a drop shadow


Highlight layer “middle frame background”

Selections – Select All – Float – Defloat

Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “middle frame background 1”

Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill the layer with the same paper

Effects – Artistic Effects – Aged Newspaper, again using the default settings

Selections – None

Delete layer “middle frame background”

Highlight layer “middle frame”

Adjust – Add/Remove Noise

Random, Monochrome, 100%


Adjust – Sharpness – Sharpen



Add a drop shadow


Highlight layer “bottom frame background”


Selections – Select All – Float – Defloat


Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “bottom frame background 1”

Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill the selection with the same paper again

Effects – Artistic Effects – Aged Newspaper, again using the default settings

**Do Not Deselect**

Grab your tube

Image – Mirror

Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “tube 2”

Arrange over the selection

Selections – Invert and hit delete


Selections – None



Change the Blend Mode to “Luminance (Legacy)”

Delete layer "bottom frame background"


Highlight layer “bottom frame”

Adjust – Add Remove Noise

Random, Monochrome, 100%

Adjust – Sharpness – Sharpen

Add a drop shadow

With your Move Tool, move the two hearts and the “flirty” wordart so they are positioned like so :



Add a drop shadow to the two hearts and wordart

Highlight layer “Flirty”

Layers – New Raster Layer and rename “mask”

Change your foreground to a colour from your tube/kit. I am using #d78ca8

Grab your Floodfill Tool and fill the layer

Layers – Load/Save Mask – Load from disk


Choose “Vix-Val2012Mask3” with these settings :




Layers – Arrange – Send to Bottom

Open up “SD PD Scattered Hearts” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “hearts”


Image – Mirror


Add a drop shadow


Open up “SD PD Clock” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “clock”


Image – Resize – 65%


Image – Free Rotate with these settings :




With your Move Tool, arrange the clock over on the right-hand side of your tag like so :





Add a drop shadow

Open up “SD PD Button 1” from the kit

Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “button”

With your Move Tool, arrange it over on the top-left of your tag like so :





Open up “SD PD Eiffel Tower 2” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “tower”


With your Move Tool, arrange the tower over on the left-hand side of your tag like so :





Add a drop shadow

Highlight layer “bottom frame”

Open up “SD PD Manequin” from the kit

Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “manequin”

Image – Resize – 45%

With your Move Tool, arrange it over on the bottom-left of your tag like so :



Open up “SD PD Bench” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “bench”


Image – Resize – 65%

Using the Move Tool, arrange it along the bottom of your tag like so :





Add a drop shadow

Open up “SD PD Street Lamp” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “lamp”


Image – Resize – 65%


With your Move Tool arrange it over on the right-hand side of your tag like so :




Layers – Arrange – Move Down


Add a drop shadow


Open up “SD PD Leaves” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “leaves”

Image – Resize – 80%

Image – Mirror


With your Move Tool, arrange them over on the right-hand side of your tag like so :





Layers – Arrange – Move Down


Add a drop shadow


Highlight your “bench” layer

Open up “SD PD Sign 3” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “sign”


Image – Resize – 30%


With your Move Tool, arrange over on the bottom-left of your tag like so :




Add a drop shadow

Open up “SD PD Ribbon 2” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “ribbon”


Image – Free Rotate with these settings :





With your Move Tool, arrange the ribbon along the bottom of your tag like so :





Add a drop shadow

Open up “SD PD Flower 5” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “flower1”


Image – Resize – 20%

With the Move Tool, arrange it along the ribbon we just placed like so :





Add a drop shadow

Open up “SD PD Flower 8” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “flower 2”


Image – Resize- 10%

Layers – Duplicate and rename “flower 3”


Arrange the two flowers along the ribbon like so :




Add a drop shadow to both flower layers

Make sure layer “flower 3” is highlighted

Open up “SD PD Shoe 2” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “shoe”


Image – Resize – 20%


With your Move Tool, arrange the shoe on the bottom-left of your tag like so :




Add a drop shadow

Open up “SD PD Perfume 1” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “perfume”


Image – Resize – 25%


Using your Move Tool, arrange the perfume on the bottom-left of your tag again like so :




Add a drop shadow

Open up “SD PD Feather” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “feather”


Image – Resize – 25%


With your Move Tool, arrange it on the bottom-left of your tag again like so :




Add a drop shadow

Open up “SD PD Suitcases” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “suitcases”


Image – Resize – 35%


Arrange over on the bottom-left of your tag again like so :




Add a drop shadow

Open up “SD PD Bag” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “bag”


Image – Mirror


Image – Resize – 25%

Arrange the bag over on the bottom-right of your tag like so :




Add a drop shadow

Open up “SD PD Bird” from the kit


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “bird1”


Image – Resize – 20%

Arrange over on the top-right of your tag like so :





Layers – Duplicate and rename “bird2”

Image – Mirror

Arrange this second bird over on the bottom-left of your tag like so :





Layers – Merge – Merge Down

Add a drop shadow

Grab your tube


Copy – Paste – As New Layer and rename “main tube”


Arrange your tube in the middle of your tag and add a drop shadow

Drag your main tube down in your layer palette so that it is above the “sign” layer like so :





Highlight your top layer

**If you would like to resize your tag, now is the time to do so**

Add your name and all copyrights.
Save your finished tag and you’re done!
